Nicholas James Witherill
Apr 27, 2018Saturday, March 24, 2018, at his home in “Plum Creek” surrounded by his wife, family and friends.Nick was born in 1956 to Harold and Beulah Witherill in Grand Rapids, where he also grew up and attended schools. He was united in marriage to Marsha Carlson in 2010 at their home in Plum Creek. Nick worked as a pipefitter for Local Union 589 for many years. He was a nature craftsman, canoe builder, hunter, burl hunter and bowl maker, and birch bark artist. He enjoyed long bike rides on his vintage Harley-Davidson, having traveled out west and to the Yukon. Nick enjoyed belonging to the Muskeg Marauder Motorcycle Club and all the friends he made there. Most importantly, he loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Along with being the most generous soul with a heart of gold, Nick was the best husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend in the world.Nick is survived by his loving wife, Marsha; two daughters, Carla (Matt Mathiason) Best of Cohasset and Keri (Corey) Erickson of Coleraine; step-son, Nathaniel (Ashley Stokke) Hanson of San Leandro, Calif.; brothers, Jerry (Chris) and Joe (Sandy); three sisters: Penny Felix, Delia (Doug) Jurek, Liz and Julie; mother-in-law, Lois Carlson; brother-in-law, Dan (Rita) Carlson; sisters-in-law, Sue Aldrich and Becky (Randy) Rache; six grandchildren: Brian, Avery, Owen, Madolynn, Chanler and Kaylee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Tom and Rusty; nephew, Greg; and his first wife, Pauline.Funeral: A gathering of family and friends will held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids.
